Day 1: Surgery – 1/29/2014

Today was the big day. We’ve been worrying about it for the last several days; all Billy was worried about was when he’d get his next meal. Boy was he mad that he couldn’t have any breakfast today! We dropped him off at the hospital at 8 am, and he happily hobbled off with the vet, sure that he was being led to his next meal.

Boy, was he wrong! He was there to have his leg amputated, and hopefully his pain with it. His surgery started at about 2 pm, and he was in recovery by 4:30. All went well. We will get to check on him in the morning. The house is sure different without him – can’t wait to have him back!

So glad to hear Billy is out of surgery and on the road to recovery! He sounds like an absolutely wonderful boy, a giant puppy!! I know he will be excited to see both of you! Remind Billy that he’s just had a major surgery, and he will need to get plenty of rest and take it easy once he gets home.
Stay strong Billy!! Can’t wait to hear more about you!!!

Recovery’s no picnic but we are all here to support you. Yes! His pain will be gone! Once recovery is complete and his sparkle is back, you will be amazed at how happy he is!

YAAAAAY! Surgey is comp.ete and he will probably be home tomorrow! Dn’t even look at his ncision. Just look into his eyes and
praise him and tell him what a good boy he is! He will be so hapy to be going home!

Get a good night’s sleep. Look forward to an update tomorrow.

  3. Congrats – the first step is over – now get some rest while Billy is still at the clinic.
The next few weeks may be a bit of a roller coaster but I’m confident that Billy will quickly adapt to his life as a tripawd!

Thanks Linda and Tucker! So far he already seems to be doing alright with his three legs. A roller coaster is right though, we just can’t stand hearing him yelp when he bumps his incision.

We are right here with you. Marley went into the vet starving at the same time your boy was headed in. She had her right front leg amputated yesterday, so it seems we will be taking this journey together. I’ve been told to stock up on lots of chocolate and wine!
